The Ladyjackets seem to be unstoppable this season – they just pulled off their 5th straight win in an undefeated season. The girls topped DI Middlebury 55-41 on Tuesday in a game played at Middlebury.
Andrea Deuel hit three 3-pointers and added 14 points and 4 assists to lead the team to victory. Brittany Rice added 11 points and 7 steals, Courtney Pidgeon had 11 points and 7 rebounds, Ashleigh Adams contributed 7 rebounds and 3 steals and Heather Little chipped in 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
“The game was close at the half,” says Coach Mike Lefebvre. “We went into the 3rd quarter with a 28-24 lead, which is the closest they got to us. Then we pulled ahead 41-29 near the end of the quarter, we had a really strong third. It’s nice to go out there and get a road win against a decent DI team. We’ve got a good, solid group this year. In 5 games we have had 4 different high scorers.”
The Ladies have no more games scheduled until Jan. 8th. Lefebvre feels that the break is too long. “We have lots of practices coming up but it’s not like playing games. We are at a point where we need to keep playing and 2 weeks off is not a good prep for the 3 games in a row that will follow. This will be a key stretch for us, 3 games and then another week off!”
The girls face South Burlington at home on Tuesday, Jan. 8, then Mount Mansfield, also at home on Thursday, Jan. 10 and travel to Lamoille on the 12th.
The Ladyjackets will be hosting “Fun and Fundamentals” basketball clinics for girls of all ages at the high school on Saturday, Dec. 29 and Saturday, Jan. 5 from 10-12. Please call Mike Lefebvre at 893-4216 for additional information.
