Nordic U12 girls tops in N.E.

Brooke Phillips, Erin Turner, Kayla Holbrook, Addison Wennar, and Ashley Lauziere are winning members of the Nordic U12 girls' soccer team won the Besthesda Invitational Soccer Tournament.

The Nordic U12 Premier Girls’ soccer team made history recently when they won the Bethesda Invitational Soccer Tournament, becoming the first U12 girl’s team from Vermont to win at this level. The team, made up of girls from Milton, Essex, Colchester Georgia, Hinesburg, Swanton and Morrisville is coached by Milton residents Todd Wennar and Marcel Choquette, head coach of the St. Michael’s College Women’s team. Milton girls on the roster include Addison Wennar, Ashley Lauziere, Kayla Holbrook, Erin Turner and Brooke Phillips.

The girls played two games to a scoreless tie on the first day of the tournament; one against BRYC Phoenix from Arlington VAÜand another against the hosting Bethesda team but a 1-0 semifinal win over Olney FC from Maryland landed the girls in the finals where they matched up against Bethesda for the second time.

Nordic came out strong, scoring 3 goals it the first half and allowed no goals against for a final score of 3-0.

The tournament victory ranks the Nordic U-12 16th in the region and number 1 in New England.

“There is no doubt that something like this is very exciting,” says Wennar. “Obviously, it’s special anytime you do anything like this but this is a special group of girls, a group from all around the state who have come together and committed themselves to being the best they can be. Being number one and staying number one are two different things; you have to keep on winning! I would like to mention that the Nordic U13 team, coached by Choquette, also has 4 girls from Milton, notably Shannon Wells, Sami Morrill, Paige Bushey and Madison Loucey, so the future of Milton girls soccer looks extremely exciting!”
