The Milton full ice mite team was victorious this weekend winning their games in Barre and on their home ice against Littleton, NH. Saturday, the Warriors faced Barre for another exciting game of hockey. The first period started off slowly as both teams struggled to gain control of the puck until Tyler Perry made the first goal of the game unassisted late in the period. Barre tied it up just before the end of the period.
The second period Barre was much stronger firing many shots on Milton goalie, Eric Roy. Roy had great support from defense men Andrew McQuinn and Cole Gaudette who received the defensive star for the game. Roy only let 2 goals slip by him, one during a Milton penalty and another toward the end of the period. Center Brendan Green had a few breakaways, backed up by Captain Logan Lusignan playing left wing, however the boys couldn't seem to find their rhythm until the 3rd period. With Barre leading 3-1, the teams ended the second period and retreated to the locker room to regroup.
The third period belonged to the Warriors as they came out skating hard and working well together, passing off the boards and skating around the Barre defense. Liam Fersing scored unassisted halfway through the period. Another goal by Brendan Green followed, tying up the game and the team saw their chance to win. With 30 seconds left on the clock, Green scored yet again, assisted by Logan Lusignan, who received the hustle award. Green's winning goal ended the game 4-3, and Green was the offensive player of the game.
At Gutterson Field house on Sunday morning, the Warriors got to display their fast skating and goal-scoring against Littleton, NH. The coaches mixed up the lines to allow all players opportunities to score...and score they did. After Littleton scored their first goal in the first period, Eric Roy achieved a hat trick with one goal in the first and 2 goals in the second periods. Perry and Burton played defense and kept the puck inside the zone for their offensive line consisting of Aidan Flynn, Liam Flynn and Cole Gaudette. Andrew McQuinn made many assists playing defense in the first and second periods. Devon Jackson joined the team on Sunday to lend a hand to the offensive lines. Another goal by Perry ended the second period with Milton ahead, 4-1.
The third period showcased how versatile the Warrior Mites are. The lines were rotated and positions switched to allow for every player to get a piece of the scoring action. Creede Burton scored twice as did Jacob Carswell who was playing with great enthusiasm. The Warriors kept the puck down at the Littleton end and as goalie Liam Fersing watched from afar as his teammates took their numerous shots on the Littleton goal. Rounding out the score, Green and Gaudette each scored again and the Warriors won 10-1.
Warrior Mite fans can catch their next home game against South Burlington at 7 a.m. at Gutterson Field house.
