Junior High Cross Country shows promises

The Junior High Cross Country team finished their season on October 16 at the Chittenden County Championship race. This event was held at the LaPlatte Nature Preserve in Shelburne on a beautiful fall afternoon. Two hundred and sixteen boys and 200 girls ran the 1.75 mile course. Milton finishers on the boy’s side included Scott Hitchcox (5th, 10:43) and Sam Noel (90th, 12:54). Milton girl finishers included Lydia Pelsor (51st 13:42), Alison Joseph (65th 13:58), Alyssa Ross (127th, 15:37), Haylee Learned (129th, 15:38) and Sarah Ricard (178th, 17:19).

While the squad was small in number, according to Coach Diane Morgan “This was a spirited team and everyone worked very hard. They were all extremely dependable and represented Milton well, displaying great sportsmanship and respect for the other athletes. They are all high achievers in the classroom as well.”

Highlights for the season included Scott Hitchcox winning four of the small school meets and his 6th place finish (3rd Vermont finisher) at the Woods Trail Classic race at Thetford.

“Five of these talented runners are in the 8th grade and will be a great asset to the High School team next year,” said Coach Morgan.
