Yellowjackets out in OT

by Zenda Farrell

In a very physical soccer game played in front of a large crowd at Mill River last Tuesday, the Mill River Minutemen edged out the Milton Yellowjackets by a score of 2-1 in a game that went into overtime to determine a victor.

The Yellowjackets came out of the gates slow and had a hard time adjusting to the physical play of Mill River.

Although Milton was trailing 1-0 at halftime, the team regrouped and scored the equalizer when Drew Steady finished off a scramble in front of the Mill River goal with 18 minutes remaining. Milton had several quality scoring chances go just wide over the final twenty minutes.

With just 2:38 remaining in the first overtime, Mill River cashed in on a 20 yard strike that found the side netting past a screened keeper Dylan Jasinksi.

Jasinski had 10 saves in the loss and the Jackets took 11 shots on the Mill River net.

Coach Glenn Button is undaunted by the loss. "It was a great season for MHS soccer. We played with great passion and intensity all year.

The players worked hard for each other and really enjoyed the game. I would like to thank all the students, alumni and parents who supported us all season; it's people like you that make high school sports special. Our fan support was fabulous all season long.

The team finishes with a record of 15-2 and graduates 4 seniors; Tim Gingras, Mike Thompson, Zack Rose and Jon Havens.

"We are a young team returning next year but our JV (10-2-1) and Junior High teams both had good seasons so I expect us to be a force for years to come," Button concludes.
