JV ladyjackets wind up winning season The JV girls’ soccer team, under first year coach Brenda Sweeney recently completed a very successful 9-4-1 season, outscoring their opponents 40-18. The roster included juniors Chelsea Dike, Kara Pratt, Olivia Rowe, Emily Turner; sophomores Mallory Machia, Katie Moss, Tess Quintin; freshmen Brittany Bull, Vanessa Daunais, Caitlyn Fields, Britanie Lucia, Nicole Orest, Sierra Thompson and Hillary Turner.
The team ended the season with a terrific home win against a tough Missisquoi team. The team proved that they could play neck in neck with almost any team and they defeated some very tough teams during the season. Those who had the privilege of watching a game against Vergennes that was played in 90+ degree heat, saw a group of determined young ladies team play a strong game against a challenging opponent. The girls showed commitment and purpose throughout the entire game. Milton had only 3 subs versus their 10 but the game was tied 2-2 at the end of regulation and went into overtime. At this point, Milton had no subs left due to injuries incurred near the end of the game. After the first 10 minutes of OT the game was still tied and 10 more minutes went up on the clock. With the extreme heat being a factor coupled with the girls just wanting to finish the game, somehow they found a way to dig deep and pull out the winning goal just 2 minutes into the second OT. Another great game was the season finale against Missisquoi, a team the Ladies lost to earlier in the season, when MVU scored a pair of goals in the last 3 minutes of a game, erasing Milton’s 1-0 advantage. Again, the team headed into this game with only 1 substitute. The girls dominated most of the game and were determined to avenge the loss they suffered at MVU. The lone goal came in the first half of the game and the whole team fought a tough second half to hold on to their slim lead for the victory. Each and every player contributed to the success of the season. With 10 out of 14 girls contributing a goal or an assist, this team will continue to be successful in the future. I would like to thank everyone for making my first season of coaching a memorable one. It was a pleasure working with such a great group of athletes. Good luck to all of you in your future seasons here at MHS. |
