7/8 Broncos are "Maple Bowl Champs"

There were a lot of broad grins on the Bronco team as they show off their winning trophy after defeating Lyndon in the Maple Bowl Championship Game in St. Albans last Saturday. This is the second time in three years the Milton team has won. Photo by Rene LaBerge.

It was a bitter cold and windy day in St. Albans at the Perley Sports Complex Saturday where the Broncos took on the Lyndon Vikings in the Maple Bowl Championship Game. After a very close hard fought game, the Broncos won 12-6.

The Broncos scored early in the first quarter to lead 6-0. The Broncos were unable to convert on the extra point. There was no scoring in the rest of the first quarter, the Broncos scored once more in the first half to make it 12-0 at the half. They had been in this position before with Lyndon and knew they had to come out and play hard the whole rest of the game to win. The Vikings scored early in the 3rd to make it 12-6. They were not able to covert on the extra point. The Broncos held off several comeback attempts by the Vikings to win the game 12-6. Both the offense and the defense for the Broncos played well in their last game.

It is the second time in three years that the Broncos have been the Maple Bowl Champs. The team played a great game and were finally given the long awaited "10" by Coach Ransom. "You did alot of things right today boys and that is why you won this game."

It was a bittersweet day for the 8th grade Broncos who have played their final game as Broncos! Today was an indication that the Yellowjackets have alot to be excited about as these Broncos move on to play for their school next year.

We are so proud of all of you! You guys are the Champions and you deserve it!

Also of note, Coach Dave held true to his word and let the boys shave his head as promised if they won.

We also would like to congratulate 8th grader Nicholas Sorrentino who was one of the recipients of the Jim Messier Sportsmanship awards that were given out at half time of the championship game Saturday. The award is given by the league to one player from each of the 15 teams in the league.

Congrats for all that you guys have accomplished this year and best of luck next year!

Way To Go Broncos!!!
