Milton wrapped up the Lake Division title with a record of 7-0, after defeating Lamoille (7-6-1) by a score of 2-1 in a game played at Hyde Park last week.
Corey Hurley scored both goals for the Yellowjackets, one in each half. “We controlled play for large portions of the game and had several chances to extend the lead,” said Head Coach Glenn Button. “Corey was solid up front and Tommy Gingras controlled play in the attacking third of the field.”
Dylan Jasinski stopped four shots for Milton and the Jackets had a total of 7 shots on the Lancers net.
This win gave Milton an overall record of 13-1 and the number 3 seed going into the playoffs.
The team eliminated the number 14 seed Lyndon Vikings (5-8-1) by a score of 4-1 in the first game of the playoffs, held in Milton, on Monday, Oct 22. Mike Burnham opened the scoring 3 minutes into the game on an assist from Corey Hurley. Drew Steady scored an unassisted goal late in the first half to push the lead to 2-0. Maxx Curtiss and BJ Potvin provided second half goals to push the Yellowjackets to their 12th straight victory.
“We opened up the DII playoffs in style,” said Button. “I thought we played very well in the second half and started to push the ball wide. Our fitness level was evident as we kept pressing while Lyndon seemed to show signs of fatigue. It was a great way to begin the tournament against a very dangerous opponent.”
Dylan Jasinski finished with five saves and the Vikings keeper turned back 10 shots.
Milton moves to the quarter finals and will host #11 seed Lamoille on Thursday at 3 p.m.
