Governor cuts ribbon to newly renovated senior housingBy NATHAN LAMB | Milton Independent Staff Writer
The expansion and improvement of affordable senior housing in Milton was celebrated with an open house and ribbon cutting at the Meadowlane Apartments off Villemaire Lane on June 17. The project, which was a partnership between several public and private entities, established a third building at the senior housing complex, adding 16 living units, a game room, and a second-story balcony. Also included was extensive renovation of the 20 previously existing units, which were built by Lloyd Gilbert in 1980. The ceremony drew about 60 people, many of them longtime residents of the complex. Among that number was Cecile Poirer (extreme right), who has lived in Meadowlane for 25 years and assisted Governor Jim Douglas with the ribbon-cutting duties. All of the units are supported by federal grants, which make them available to the tenants for 30 percent of their income. |
