Hockey loses to Peoples
By ZENDA FARRELL | Milton Independent Sports Writer
The Yellowjackets lost 4-3 to People's Academy at Morrisville last Wednesday after jumping to a 2 goal lead early in the game. Steven Whitaker led scoring for the Yellowjackets with a pair of goals and Eric Daunais added the other.
Cody Mercer made 34 saves and Milton had a total of 23 shots on the People's net.
Coach Leon Lifschutz is optimistic, “This game was sloppy from the start and was a very disappointing loss for us. We lacked the focus we needed to win that game. We worked hard enough to keep it close but without that focus it just turns into wasted energy. We definitely look forward to playing them again.”
On Sunday, January 13, several members of the hockey team, accompanied by family and friends, made a day trip to Ottawa, Ontario aboard a chartered Premier Coach bus. Originally, the hope was to arrive in mid afternoon and spend some time skating on the Rideau Canal, a scenic waterway connecting Kingston and Ottawa that is made into a 7.8 kilometer long skating rink annually, after the canal freezes over. Alas, the January thaw hijacked this experience but the group did attend a hockey game at the Scotiabank Place, home of the Ottawa Senators.
“Ottawa was a great opportunity to see the kids in a different element than we usually do. We had an informal but neat tour of Ottawa and watched a great game between the Senators and the NY Islanders. We didn't get to skate on the canal but we did walk past it, as well as the Parliament building and University of Ottawa. We hope in the future to extend more opportunities like these to our players and our community as they are truly experiences that you take with you into the future,” said Lifschutz.
The team makes the long trip to North Country for a 7 p.m. game this Wednesday then takes on the Stowe Raiders at home on Saturday at 8 p.m.
